PEDRO FRIEDRICH

"(...) guitarist Pedro Friedrich from Nova Friburgo, one of the greatest expressions of blues in the city."
Adriana Oliveira
“Blues is not just a musical style or a scene; it is a way of seeing life, a social movement that will never disappear. And this is a fact! But this certainty is even greater when a revelation of the caliber of Pedro Friedrich emerges and, without fanfare, conquers space.”
Hugo Medeiros
Pedro Friedrich is a Brazilian guitarist, singer, and composer with 17 years of experience. He has been teaching guitar for 8 years, using a unique methodology for beginners, intermediate, and advanced students.
Born in Nova Friburgo (RJ), Pedro has performed at various festivals, including the Jazz and Blues Festival (Campos, Rio das Ostras, Nova Friburgo), Friburgo Street Blues (2022), Férias na PI Festival - Fortaleza-CE, Summer and Winter Festival (Sesc), where in 2019 he participated in a show with musician Cláudio Nucci, the Sustainability Festival, and in 2020 he performed at the Teatro Rival (Rio de Janeiro) in a show celebrating the 30-year career of renowned harmonica player Jefferson Gonçalves, where they presented their new work reinterpreting the Delta Blues style, titled “The Real Blues.”
In 2019, he was featured on the Coluna Blues Rock website in an exclusive interview where he shared a bit of his musical journey.
In 2024, he was mentioned by Guitar Load magazine as one of the 36 best blues guitarists in Brazil.
Teacher and Curator of the Blues nas Ruas Festival, which aims to bring art and culture to people with disabilities through blues.
Pedro began his journey in music studies at the age of 13 when he received his first guitar. Fortunately, he had access to his father's vinyl collection, allowing him to build the necessary musical foundation to continue his learning and development in his playing style. Bands like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, The Beatles, Black Sabbath, Rush, Genesis, Johnny Winter, among many others, have been and still are part of his musical formation.
THE REAL BLUES
The Real Blues project, carried out by Jefferson Gonçalves and Pedro Friedrich, consists of in-depth research into the history of American music, which led to an incredible reinterpretation of the oldest style of blues in history: Delta Blues, also known as Rural Blues.
Born in the southern United States, with its cradle in the Mississippi Delta region and based on the work songs of African slaves, blues evolved in a few decades and gave rise to other styles such as jazz, rock and roll, soul, among others. Renowned bands and artists like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Jimi Hendrix had Delta Blues as a major reference.

(FRIBURGO STREET BLUES 2022)
What many do not know is the real history of blues and how this electrifying musical style was initially played. Jefferson and Pedro conducted deep research into the roots of this American genre from the 1920s and 1930s and managed to convey the essence of Rural Blues in an album.
With a thematic show, the duo not only perfectly performs the greatest blues classics but also leaves an unforgettable impression on the audience by creating a dynamic presentation that blends music with a bit of the history of each composer of the time and the beginning of this entire movement, focusing mainly on the great Robert Johnson, known as the Father of Blues.
The Real Blues takes the listener or spectator, in a classic and impactful way, directly to the cotton plantations of the Delta. The project offers a unique experience of listening to songs that depict the lament and experiences of the slaves. Since the recordings of the great names of Delta Blues are very old and consequently of low sound quality, it is incredible to be able to hear this primal style of blues live and on current digital platforms in a brilliant reinterpretation.
Thus, with a touch of contemporaneity, Pedro with his voice and guitar that seem native to Mississippi, and Jefferson with his impeccable and complex harmonica arrangements, result in both live shows and recordings in dramatic, powerful, and sophisticatedly subtle performances, taking the audience on an incredible musical journey.
